Everyone has different hearing and preferences, and maybe this just isn't for you. You may listen to the 650 and Schiit Stack exclusively for over a month and still come away thinking the 598 is still just as good - and this is OK. Typically, you're less likely to notice the difference until you've listened to the better headphone for an extended time, and then go back to the old pair. Personally, I give myself about 2-3 weeks of straight listening before coming to any conclusions. It's likely you need more time to really acclimate to the 650 in order to appreciate the differences. You listened to your 598 for over a year, and the 650 for just a few days. If you're listening to poorly encoded/ripped MP3's from questionable sources, then it's the old adage "garbage in, garbage out". The music you listen to (how well it was mixed/mastered, loudness, quality of files, etc.) all have an affect on the listening experience, which the 650 should be able to discern better. So, most "upgrades" from here onward is going to take a more keen ear to perceive, which can be gained through more listening experience. You're highly unlikely to get that same "cherry popping" experience as with that very first time you upgraded from (presumably) not so great headphones to the HD 598. Kind of feel like I just drank the kool aid lol.Ĭould there be something wrong with my set up? I have all enhancements disabled in windows and I'm controlling the volume with the amp (windows and spotify are at 100%). They sound better, but I paid $100 for the 598s, and over $600 for the HD 650s + uber stack. I read a lot about how the 650s had better bass than the 598s, but they sound about the same, and the 598 has more "boomy" bass. It gets louder, but that's about all I can notice (which doesn't benefit me at all because they were plenty loud with onboard sound and I have a relatively low listening volume anyway, mid 60s to low 70s db. I got the amp + dac today, and I haven't really noticed any difference to be honest, maybe I have shit ears, but I can't tell a difference between the 650s on onboard vs the Modi + Magni. I guess I figured it would just get better once i got the stack. The 650s sound a bit more refined and less muddy, I can also hear a bit more detail, but nothing "definitive". While on onboard the 650s sounded maybe 10-15% better than the 598s. I had been running the 650s off onboard for a few days while I waited for the amp and dac. Been running HD 598s off onboard audio for over a year now, wanted to upgrade so i picked up some HD 650s + Modi 2 Uber and Magni 2 Uber.
